True Story of 2005 Charleston Southern Football Team’s Miraculous Season
Told by Former Player in ‘Believe EG21: Play Like There Is No Tomorrow’

CHARLESTON, SC (December 3, 2015) – “Believe EG21: Play Like There Is No Tomorrow,” a book detailing Charleston Southern University’s historic 2005 season, was released today by former player Mike McCann. The self-published book, which can be found on or the author’s website, comes after two and a half years of writing, research, and interviews.

The ‘05 Bucs were expected to have their best season ever. But just a few weeks before their season began their star player and team leader, Eddie Gadson, was killed in a car accident. The book is about how the team dealt with the loss and what they did to honor Gadson. Ten percent of proceeds go to the scholarship fund set up in Gadson’s honor by his parents.

McCann, who played safety at CSU from 2004-2008, says he wanted to tell the story because so few people knew about it.

“You see tons of sports stories on ESPN or in Sports Illustrated and we always wondered why ours was never picked up,” explained McCann. “During the final game of the 2005 season less than 500 people were in the stands to witness how it played out. Since nobody else told our story, I figured who better than someone who lived it from inside the locker room.”

The book’s release coincidently comes on the heels of CSU’s most successful season just days before CSU plays its first-ever FCS playoff game against The Citadel. Current Buccaneer head coach Jamey Chadwell, was an assistant on head coach Jay Mills’ coaching staff during the 2005 season.

“The journey of that year had many ups and downs. This story needs to be told because of the impact it had on the university and the football program,” said Chadwell.
